Let me introduce you to Tennye:

Tennye is from Central Texas, born and raised there.  Which she tells me is becoming something quite rare these days.  She is an only child, and both her parents are born Texans as well.  She is married for almost 27 years now to Charlie.  Together they have three daughters who are 20, 22, and 25.  Tennye has another daughter who is 37 and has two daughters of her own.  Her husband also has a son who is 32 and not married.  She put my oldest daughter up for adoption when she was born, and hs only been in contact with her for the past three years.  She has been in Germany for the last 9 years, and just moved back to the US in December.  She is very exited to know she will be abel to be a grandmother to her 2 children, ages 9 and 12.

I spent a lot of time with my Aunt growing up, who did some sewing for other people, and she sewed some of my clothes as well.  My first exposure to a sewing class was in the 7th grade, where I made a skirt.  I loved it so much that I took some sort of home economics class every year.  I made my prom dress one semester, I upholstered an antique chase another semester.  In the 8th grade while I was living with my grandparents I learned how to crochet.  I can't tell you how many afghans I have made over the years.  I also learned to knit but was never very good at it.  There have been many other arts and crafts projects that I have made (too many to list). 

As a child I remember sleeping under warm quilts made by my grandmother, her sisters, my mother and Aunts.  As an adult I decided I wanted to learn to quilt as well.  For me I needed to either buy a book, or take a class.  I did both.  My first quilt was from a kit purchased at a quilt show.  My first class was taken at a community center and was about 13 weeks long.  I have taken several other classes since.  Most of my skills came from reading books, or from resources found on the internet or from friends.  I feel it is important to continue the tradition of quilting, and to pass it down to our younger generations.

My first quilt was made sometime around 1985 and I have been quilting ever since.  In the beginning I did not photograh my quilts.  I started teaching private lessons, and group classes over the past 4 or 5 years.  My first classes were based around what the student wanted to learn.  They would come to me with a pattern and I would walk them through the steps to complete their quilts.  I now teach several classes at the shop where I work.  I will continue to teach private session as well.

My quilting passions include hand piecing, machine piecing, hand quilting, machine quilitng, machine applique, and machine embroidery.  I lap quilt and I use a Gracie frame to do my machine quilting on with my home sewing machine.
